Kitchen Production Assistant – Permanent Part-Time

Central Nelson | 15–20 hours per week | Weekdays

Looking for a kitchen role without the late nights, weekend shifts or split rosters?

My Kitchen Table is a growing Nelson food business producing premium frozen ready meals from our commercial kitchen in central Nelson. We’re looking for a reliable, practical and hardworking Kitchen Production Assistant to become part of our small team.

This could be a great fit if you have previous kitchen, café, catering or food-production experience and are looking for predictable daytime hours and a supportive working environment.

What the role looks like

This is a genuine hands-on kitchen role. You’ll be helping across the production process to make sure our meals are prepared, packed and ready to go while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

Your day could include food and ingredient preparation, assisting with meal production, portioning and packing meals, weighing and labelling, stock rotation, completing food-safety records, pot washing and keeping the kitchen clean and organised.

We want to be upfront: cleaning and wash-up are a significant part of this position. Everyone pitches in, and maintaining an exceptionally clean kitchen is an important part of producing great food.

The hours

  • We’re offering permanent part-time employment with a minimum of 15 hours guaranteed each week.

  • You’ll typically work around four hours per day across four or five weekdays, with shifts generally falling between 9am and 3pm.

  • During busier periods, there may be the opportunity to work additional hours by agreement, up to approximately 20 hours per week.

And one of the biggest perks? No weekends. No evenings. No early-morning starts. No split shifts

Who we’re looking for

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, café, catering, food production or a similar environment would be a strong advantage.

More importantly, we’re looking for someone who is reliable, organised and takes pride in doing things properly. You’ll need good basic food-preparation skills, attention to detail, an understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety, and the confidence to follow established systems and complete records accurately.

You’ll be working as part of a small team, so being someone who sees what needs doing and gets stuck in will go a long way.

A few things to know

This is a physically active role. You’ll spend extended periods on your feet and regularly lift and move ingredients, cookware, equipment and finished meals.

There is also some paperwork involved with food production and food-safety compliance, but you don't need to be a computer whiz. Our systems are established and straightforward, and full training will be provided.
